SILCHAR: Forest personnel in Assam’s Cachar district have seized endangered animals and birds from a automobile coming from Mizoram, officers mentioned on Wednesday.
A kangaroo, six macaw parrots, three tortoises and two monkeys have been rescued by the wildlife personnel of Cachar Forest Division at Silchar after they intercepted the automobile at Lailapur forest sub-beat throughout routine checking on Tuesday night time.
The truck, suspected to be carrying unlawful timber, was stopped at Lailapur and through checking, the forest personnel seen a powerful odour emanating from the automobile, the officers mentioned.
On being questioned, the motive force mentioned, it was coming from rotten fruits.
The forest personnel weren’t satisfied and once they searched the automobile, the animals and birds have been discovered inside cartons and plastic packets.
Two individuals, recognized as Narsimha Reddy and Navnath Tukaram Daigude, have been detained.
Throughout interrogation, the 2 individuals revealed that the consignment was headed for Guwahati.
