KOLKATA: The West Bengal State Handloom Weavers Co-operative Society Ltd, often known as ‘Tantuja’, will provide round 1.5 crore masks to college students of presidency faculties within the state, an official stated on Saturday.

The state’s schooling division had earlier stated masks are a should for youngsters after they go to colleges for mid-day meal ration.

“One crore masks have already been dispatched, and the remaining could be provided shortly,” the official stated.

Self-help teams (SHGs) and garment makers have been engaged by the co-operative to supply COVID-19 protecting gear, together with masks. “This has helped maintain employment when industrial actions had come to a standstill,” he stated.

Gross sales have been tepid for ‘Tantuja’ at its 83 shops within the present fiscal because of the pandemic.

Salaries for its showroom staff had been additionally delayed in August, the official stated.
